| The goal - Plant a quarter of a million trees.
The Tree Planting Board: Comprised of 16 Morgan County residents.
Impacts:
- Help in lobbying for a State Legislature budget line item for
tree planting assistance in 2007/08 state budget (Can the state
plant 10 million trees in 2007/2008?)
- Involvement of WHIP, EQIP, and CREP to involve landowners in
enhancing riparian zones.
- Encourage farmers who retire fields to replant. Help to get
every farmer involved in some way.
- Increased tree seedlings sale for Eastern Panhandle Conservation
District and Division of Forestry.
- Support to help sell the program through a mass media blitz.(Newspapers,
radio and TV) Show the rest of the state that Morgan County values
the importance of trees as a renewable resource, yet a vital part
of our environment.
- Involvement of many outside agencies is key. Allegheny power,
NRCS, DNR, watershed groups, local loggers and mills. Federal
agencies.
- Benefits to tourism, logging industry, Chesapeake Bay program,
and sustaining WV forests.
- Our biggest problem - Having the trees to plant and the money
to do it.
Failure is not an option!!
